Why is it such a big deal in the US to have dark, tanned skin?? Furthermore, people with dark skin are considered sexy and become an ideal figure for many people. From where I come from, lighter skin is always more desirable.
Dark, tanned skin??
I'll not be ignorant like some and say go back where you came from. That sort of comment is idiotic.
Tanned skin in America is revered because it suggests a person has robust health, so people spend time in the sun and tanning booths to get this 'healthy' look.
In the end it causes wrinkles, freckles, and sun damage. It can also cause death in the form of skin cancer.
A kiss of color is lovely, but a dark tan just screams wrinkles to me. I saw one teenage girl the other day who was so dark, she was almost black. And yes, she was caucasian.
Tanning is stupid, and doing so is a major health risk. And it causes wrinkles.
Dark, tanned skin??
Well I would be a god where you live them, any whiter and I would be dead.
Reply:if it makes you so angry why not go back to where you came from?
Reply:Then go back to your country and have fun... Who cares just enjoy the fact that you are alive...
Reply:light skin people are in style where i'm from
Reply:where are u from?
Reply:Dangerous Territory! Dark skin and light eyes or light hair is supposed to be very exotic. I am not sure how Americans think. But having dark skin is not always a plus here.
Reply:reported!
Reply:Well, it is a more popular look. But have you seen the chick with the dyed red hair on the Pussycat Dolls...she is pasty white and HOT!
Reply:I love my whiter than white skin. I think it looks better than a tan, especially a fake one. I think that tanning is ridiculous because people are blatantly exposing themselves to a lifetime of skin cancer, and leathery skin.
Reply:its what society at a whole thinks desirable is. but being tan is not a big deal. some people like non tanned people. I mean when they get to know you its not even about the tan any more?
Reply:IT IS A BIG DEAL BECAUSE TO HAVE DARK SKIN IS DIFFERENT AND PEOPLE WANT DIFFERENT.
Reply:go back then
Reply:light skinned people are out of style wher i am from but who cares we are all God childrens
Reply:Don't know but I would have fun where you came from I'm the lightest from all my friends and everyone else I've ever known.

Reply:In some cultures, light skin is a sign of the wealth and prosperity (people who don't have to work outside for a living). So, in these cultures, darker skin usually denotes people who work outside for a living, usually indicating a strenuous labor type job. Lighter skin, in these cultures, indicates that you work indoors and are usually paid more. So, lighter skinned people are admired for this reason.
In other cultures, like in the US, a tan is generally more attractive physically. So, when you see someone with a tan, the assumption is that the person is the type of person who likes to be outdoors and generally likes physical activities rather than staying indoors most of the time. In the US, having a tan or not really depends on the individual and doesn't really classify how much the person makes or the type of job they do.
The color of the skin is really personal preference and up to each person to decide. I personally tan because otherwise I get horrible acne all over. I've tried creams and other topicals from dermatologists which didn't help. I didn't want to try drugs for fear of side effects. So, believe it or not, the dermatologist recommend that, in her words, I should "get some sun". She said that sunlight helps reduce the flareups.
So, I decided to try tanning beds because they're far cheaper than dermatologist UV treatments and safer because they are time controlled (no chance of burning if timed correctly). I've found that the UV helps dry up the acne, kill the bacteria on the skin and prevents it from flaring. So, at this point, I'd rather have a tan than be covered in ugly acne from head to toe (although, I have to admit that I prefer having a tan than not, but that's not why I tan or why I started tanning).
