For several years now, my mom has had excessive dead skin particularily on her hands and feet. This is not about having dry skin, it is some kind of disease or condition. She doesn't have medical insurance so can't consult a doctor. Using any kind of lotion or even vaseline does not cure it. The dead skin is kind of thick and sometimes hard. What kind of disease is this and what can she do? If someone could a t least tell me what it is, I can do some research on the internet. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
Excessive dead skin on hands and feet?
I'm not really sure, but it could be a form of eczema. There are different kinds of eczema that show different things such as extremely dry skin, to bumps, to scaly rashes. And I know that you can get an over the counter Hydro Coritsone cream to treat eczema, although they are only allowed to give out 0.5% over the counter, but a dr could prescribe a higher dose. I'm not sure if this is what it is but it's the only thing I could think of because I know some people get really mild cases and other get quite severe cases of it. Good Luck with everything!
Excessive dead skin on hands and feet?
It is a form of atheletes foot aka a fungal condition.
Buy over the counter lamisil cream, wash the area, dry well, apply cream, keep clean and repeat 2 X daily.
The laimisil isn't cheap but it's less than the Dr.
Reply:It could be Eczema, that's the only thing that I can really think of. Has she tried using St.Ives apracot scrub? it's really good at removing dead skin
Reply:There is a condition called psoriasis that causes flaky dandruff like skin to shed nonstop. But it is generalized i mean it covers the body. My friends son has it. There is a therapy for it but you have to go to the hospital for that. Maybe what you mom has is not actually a disease. If your Mom is doing a lot of manual labor using her hands this could explain the thickening of the skin on her hands. If she wears uncomfortable shoes and likes to walk and walk and walk it could also thicken the skin on her feet. Very few people have thick skin on their hands and feet that does not do manual labor. Most people who have normal thick skin on their feet and skin on hands are farmers, construction workers, laborers and people in remote areas who do not have footwear. Try soaking your mom's feet in a basin of lukewarm water with a handful of salt for about 20 mins. Then try scrubbing it with foot scrubs. After that try putting on vaseline. You can do the same to her hands. If they are not bleeding, painful or itchy I don't think there is any problem. It's only a temporary remedy, but it's still best for your mom to see a doctor. Hope it helps
